Sifu Christopher P. Ward Jr. 7th Dan
Man Within An Art Martial Arts Studios

Martial Arts Instructors dream of the day they find a student dedicated enough to learn and pass on the knowledge. Robert Popolow is one of the few dedicated students that accomplished this goal. He has been able to continually train hard while teaching students. Like a true master he continues to seek out superior techniques. It is for this reason that I have asked him to participate in the martial arts book I am writing.

Charles

I've practiced various martial arts over the last 8 years including Shotokan
Karate, Aikijutsu and Wing Chun, focusing heavily on Wing Chun when I found
an instructor who was willing to share his knowledge. Unfortunately, the
arrangement eventually came to an end, and I began seeking a new instructor.
First and foremost, I wanted instruction in Wing Chun that was designed to
develop combat effectiveness while adhering to its basic principles. When I
found Rob, I found the instructor I was looking for. He is
well versed in both the theory and practice of the art. He has extensive
experience in other arts which helps improve understanding of strengths and
limitations of techniques within Wing Chun, and he's extremely generous with
the sharing of his knowledge. His rates are extremely affordable,
mindbogglingly so, especially when you consider the quality of instruction he
gives. Furthermore, Rob pushes you to be your best. I sweat, I tire, and I
am made better by it. If you want quality instruction in any of the styles
Rob is proficient in, come to any of his training sessions and see for
yourself just how much you stand to gain by training with him.

Thank you Hi Rob, Just a quick thank you note in case I forget to say so when I see you next time. It's been great working with you and now I can understand what you meant by you have been progressively training me. Tonight I could BARELY make it to my building following our earlier session (and I live less than 100 yards away from the gym). My doorman actually thought that I needed medical attention! However, 1.5hrs later I'm so energetic it feels like I'm bouncing off the walls. For the 1st time in my life I actually feel more relaxed, even more positive after the gym session then I felt before I  went to the gym. You are a genius! No doubt I'll continue to huff and puff and curse every time I workout with you but for tonight I think you are the best.

Courtney

I really liked the kickboxing session! I did a boxing class Saturday morning (group class) and I tried to remember what you taught me last week. I definitely saw some improvement! Hopefully I'll keep improving as I continue boxing. I really just started a couple of weeks ago so it's all new to me!  I've been sore from intense workouts before, but never for an entire week! Rob did a great job of explaining concepts to me, demonstrating exactly how to execute an exercise and, most importantly, made sure I could do it myself before moving on! I definitely improved my boxing skills with Rob and look forward to our next sessions.

Running Clinic Guidelines Thank u. I will read this later, but want u to know that yesterday I focused on my arms alone and I already met one goal! 6:49 pace in the 4 miler will write more later. What you taught me about using my arms to increase my speed was very effective.

David Tamura 8 System Mixed Martial Arts Trainer

Rob, thank you for being the only "PRO" on all these martial art meetups... Workout was fantastic...your a Gentleman and a Scholar..

Angie

I have been doing well... Just read your message. Not sure if Emil told you but I have joined the gym. You were my inspiration.  I try and go to the gym for about 3x a week like you said and it was suppose to be for only 30 minutes but I stay between an hour and an hour and 30 minutes... I am trying to lose about 60 pounds and stay in fit and am making it a lifestyle change like you kept telling me. I have been eating a lot healthier and smaller portions. I cut out the soda and all the juices that contain high fructose or anything that has any "tose" in it. I try to drink about 4 20oz of water during the day. I started to buy brown rice and I eat a lot of salad. I am staying away from fast food and surprisingly I don't miss the stuff that wasn't good for me.

Elizabeth

Hi Rob, My core doesn't feel as awful as I thought it would -so I probably should have pushed harder. I'll know that for next time. I really appreciated all your teaching methods and advice, so please feel free to keep it coming. Your point about thinking consciously about enjoying the workout while you're running (smiling) especially keeps coming to mind. I noted in one of my marathon photos that I was smiling, and remembered it was the NYC marathon -which is where I performed my best. Look forward to hearing from you soon and thanks for the motivation!

I'm almost healed enough for a second round of training. My hands are still sore from swinging that sword and my forearms black and blue from blocking punches.

Gene

My wife Ann and I were in your boxing class. We still cant get over how effective your training was.
Just recently we were practicing at home and Ann busted my lip :).
We think that your are a natural born teacher. We have relocated to North Jersey and would like to sign up for classes, boxing or any kind of weapons.

Leonor

Rob, my muscles are very happy this morning, and so am I.
I enjoyed our time together, all the exercises, and specially the breathing technique; I found the breathing to be extremely important, since it brings plenty of oxygen to my brain - I need a lot of oxygen!!
Rob, you are an Angel, and I love to see how much you love helping others.
Many thanks for all you help.

Phaedra

It's been a few days since my first Wing tsun lesson and I am aching for the second
round ... literally! My instructor Rob displayed the same precision and
persistence that I witnessed during my fencing instruction with him. I
was encouraged and pushed to higher levels than I thought I would achieve,
and I came away with an incredible sense of satisfaction and accomplishment.
Rob's energy and enthusiasm is highly contagious!

Charlton

Just wanted ot let you know i loved the session and look forward to the
next. As I told you before I really want to lose like 15 pounds. Since
we're meeting like twice a week do you think we could do one session
that more cardio based and incorporate the MA? and Then another would
be based in skill training.
